Is It Time To Go?

Still can’t sleep. The standard thing I do is coming here to my blog every time I can’t sleep. I’ve been busy with work, as I stated in the previous post, but since now that work is already over, I feel like I have my life and my house back in my arms. Yeay! I’ve just vacuumed and mopped the floor, dusted the shelves and did everything in my weekly list, that I failed to do the last time (refer to the previous post).

These last few months of the year are probably the busiest. I’ve got courses to attend to, post-UPSR activities to conduct at school and on top of that, I’ve to update the panel files. Usually, there’ll be an SPSK observation in October or November, so I have to get ready for that. Did I mention that I’m the KP for English Panel at my school? Haha I think I did here. It’s my first year being a KP here in SKPJ, replacing Kak Kila who moved to Melaka last February.

Speaking of work, two days ago, I got a WhatsApp text from one of the the cluster-school teachers here in Muar, asking me to transfer to her school, which happens to be quite near to my house. Actually, I met her at our English Carnival for district level and she told me that they don’t have enough English teachers, siding aside the fact that it’s a cluster school, which the niche is English. Weird right? She also told me that they want someone young to be in their English team as they’re already quite veteran. They’re easily tired, they don’t have time, they this, they that. Anyway, I did tell her at the time that I wanted to transfer because I had a problem working under my then GB (the WWoTW), but since now she’s already retired and we don’t have any replacement yet, I have a second thought about the transfer. I didn’t even apply for an EG-Tukar this year because I’m happy at my workplace right now and I don’t want it to change.

Also, I thought she already forgot about it. It was months ago since I last saw or heard anything from her. The way she talked me into joining her school was quite suspicious to me. I kinda sense that she just wants me there to be bossed around. You know, since I’m young and all so the logic is that I can do anything they’d be throwing at me. So, thanks but no thanks, I don’t wanna be bullied like that. Maybe I’m being very negative here, maybe they mean well, but the truth is, I love my current school and I don’t wanna go anywhere else. Well, not yet anyway. I’ve established my reputation there (do I even have one hahah) and I’m not planning to start over at a new place. Plus, their GB is pretty much like the WWoTW so what’s the point of going there?
Haha.. So again, thanks, but no thanks.

There’ll be time when I’ll walk away from SKPJ, but it’s just not now.

Some day la kan..

Not A Good Day

I am at school right now. I know it’s not the right time to blog right now (all my classes are done actually and I have finished writing lesson plans until Tuesday), but I need to pour this out. Just for the sake of it. I was just not my usual self today. I tried browsing some online shopping websites for some kind of therapy, but that just added more stress because of the things that I can’t buy. Hmm.. I did not have a good start today. I was late to school after promising myself that I would never be late again. Due to that, I failed to secure myself a seat at the assembly (again) so I had to stand up for like an hour. In heels. I’m used to walking in heels, even running in heels, or climbing up and down the four-storey building in heels. I feel nothing. But standing still in heels for an hour, I suddenly felt the pain. There, not a good start. Tired and painful.

I’m at home now. School hour’s over.

Usually when that happens, there comes my downward emotional spiral. Like a roller coaster. I started to feel annoyed by just looking at the innocent faces around me. Looking at them, suddenly there were inner thoughts coming to mind, like

‘Arghh… Don’t talk to me.’,
‘Why do you talk with your mouth like that?’
‘This one has nerve staring at me!’
‘That’s why your students won’t shut up in class, it’s because you won’t too!’
‘Argh… You again!’
‘You wear sandals like that to school? Seriously??’

‘Oh my God, I hate your baju.’

and etc etc etc..

I know.

Such a bitch, I was.

After the assembly, I went to the staffroom before going into class. Then, I noticed that I didn’t have my pencil case with me. Maybe it doesn’t seem much to you people, but my pencil case is my nyawa. I started to lose it already. I texted my hubs and blamed him for not putting my pencil case in my work bag. He’s been dealing with ‘this’ right here for more than 4 years so I guess he’s used to it. Thank God I have a few black and red pens on my table (but they’re not my favourite), so I just grabbed those and went to class.

The blame game with hubs.

The blame game with hubs.

The magic started here. Every time I feel disconnected with the people around me, I always feel calm and more relaxed every time I’m in class dealing with my students. I would avoid staffroom and canteen because I just couldn’t handle adults. Plus, I hated to pretend everything was okay when it wasn’t, so it was much easier to just avoid people. Today, I spent the whole school hours in classes, even during my free time. 8.00-9.30 (class – 5 Usaha), 9.30-10.30 (free time & recess – lepak at 5 Yakin, they were in Music room), 10.30-11.30 (class – 6 Rajin), 11.30-12.30 (class – 5 Yakin), 12.30-1.30 (free time – lepak at 3 Yakin, I dunno where they were at, the class was empty).

Did I or did I not just list my whereabouts at school?

I guess, I’m feeling a lot better now. Of course, I feel a lot better, I am at home. Everything is a lot better at home.

This sure helped a lot.

This sure helped a lot.

Guess I’m signing out.

Need to catch some Zs.

What’s on?? Yeay, the school holiday mode is ON! I’ve never failed to make this shoutout without feeling like a school girl. At this 28 years of age, I feel so young that I still can talk about school! That’s the good thing being a teacher. You’re just never old. 🙂

So far, I still have no solid plan of what what I’m gonna do, or where I’m gonna go. I was thinking of  Redang or Perhentian, but the places are fully booked. If anything still available, it’s gonna be so expensive.

Hmm.. Still thinking. Ideas?

While I was still searching, my fingers ‘accidentally’ clicked on this very familiar website. Thereeeee you gooo…..

Raya Collection from Poplook

I love caftan! It’s flowy, airy.. Haha! Sesuai sangat la dengan weather Malaysia yang ‘sejuk’ ni kan.. My favourite would be that purple green caftan and also that pink beige dress. Cant buy them now tho. Have to ask hubby if he’s okay with it. This is only the first collection, there will be other collections coming from them soon. Check out their website for more raya designs okay?

Before I go, I just wanna post some pictures of yesterday’s event. My colleagues and I were assigned to be apart of the Teacher’s Day Celebration for Muar Level in Dataran Tanjung Mas. We were in charge of the gifts and souvenirs as well as the emcees for that prize giving ceremony. For that matter, 2 months ago I went to Bandung to buy our uniform for this event (click here if you miss my Bandung story), and this is the result of that uniform!

Okay, enough for now. Blog again soon.

Take Off Your Work Heels…

… and start wearing flats and sneakers, coz it’s school break time!!

Excited into, but the truth is, school break la sangat kan.. Budak je cuti okay, cikgu cuti sikit2 je. but I’m still happy because at least, I don’t have to wake up as early as 5 anymore. Tehee..

So, where are you guys going this holiday? I already started my pre-holidays last 2 weeks (the Langkawi vacation) and another one (the Sarawak vacation, in sha Allah) would be around late December. I’m not sure if I would be going anywhere in the middle of the school break because we still need to focus on the house renovation that is done yet. Maybe we would , I don’t know.

School tuitions will be starting in December. Hmm.. As long as I’m a teacher at this school, my school break timetable will be something like the image below. Does anyone wanna replace me?
Pretty pleaseeeee…

Note to Sal if you’re reading this, ‘I’m tired of being WANTED all the time! Once in a while nak jadi UNWANTED mcm you bleh x??’

Tuition timetable.. Hello! There’s ANOTHER PAGE of this with MY NAME on it!

Mr. Crab And Mr. Squid

So tonight I would like to share one of my lesson plans that I designed for my Year 3 kids. It was not in the textbook because I created it myself. So, please expect some flaws. Haha

Lesson 1 : LISTENING / SPEAKING I wrote this story myself so it was kinda weird. And.. Mr.Crab and Mr.Squid? Where's Spongebob?

After I read them the story, I asked them simple WH Questions such as, ‘How many characters in the story?’ “Where did Mr.Crab live?’ and etc.

I wrote this story at 3 a.m. I just couldn’t find the best, simplest and easiest story to teach Simple Past Tense on the internet, so I had to come up with my own story. I dunno why I chose crab and squid as my characters, but these two characters remind you of something right? Haha. SPONGEBOB!

If you look at the ending of the story where the food was gone, I was actually so sleepy and exhausted at that time. I didn’t know how to finish the story, so sengaja buat tergantung. Kunun2 nk suruh my kids sambung cerita la and it worked. Haha

Lesson 2 : READING They colour the sentence halves based on the story that they've learnt in Lesson 1.

Lesson 2 : READING
Match the sentence halves based on the story.

Answer and colour. Colour and answer.

Answer and colour. Colour and answer.

This is what I did in Lesson 2, after doing shared reading. First, I asked them to retell the story using picture cards that I pasted on the board and then, we moved to this activity. Basically, they just had to choose the correct phrases based on the story, but to add more fun in it, I asked them to colour it. They loved colouring. Semua pun nk warna. Gambar Mr.Crab and Mr.Squid yang memang dh berwarna tu pon nk warna lagi..

Lesson 3 : WRITING A good platform to expand their ideas.

Lesson 3 : WRITING
A good platform to expand their ideas.

Talking about outside the box huh?

Talking about outside the box huh?

Here is the best part. I asked them to throw me ideas about what happened to the food. At first, class was a bit quiet because they thought I expected some serious answers, so I started to give examples, ‘The food was gone because Mr.Crab didn’t like it and he threw it away.’ After that, one by one gave me weird funny answers. I wrote properly on the board and asked them to choose any three of the answers and write them on the task sheet.

Lesson 4 : GRAMMAR Simple Past Tense yaaww..

Lesson 4 : GRAMMAR
Simple Past Tense yaaww. (I suck at writing simple instructions!)

Since the story was in Past Tense, I thought it would be good if I focused on the Simple Past Tense used in this story. I explained about Past Tense and gave examples such as ‘had’, ‘went’ and ‘shared’ from the story. Then, I asked them to help me find few more Past Tense verbs and list them down in the task sheet above.

Lesson 4 : GRAMMAR Match and match and match!

Lesson 4 : GRAMMAR
Match and match and match!

Then, match the verbs in Past Tense to the root words. Of course, I gave an example on the board before asking them to do it by themselves.

Lesson 4 : GRAMMAR Fill in the blanks!

Lesson 4 : GRAMMAR
Fill in the blanks!

Lastly, ‘Fill in the blanks’ exercise as the closure of the grammar lesson. For some reason, they said this exercise was the hardest. I didn’t give examples but I told them the answers were all in the story that they have just read. I helped them with the first two questions, then, baru la diorg boleh buat sendiri. Maybe my instructions were not clear.

For ‘Language Art’ lesson, I just asked them to do a role-play. I divided them into several groups and they presented it in front of the class. I know there were only two characters in the story, but I asked them to insert the ending of the story by themselves (like what they did in Lesson 3) and there, they could add more characters. So, every group presented different ending of the story. One of the groups came up with something like this,
‘The food was stolen by a witch. The witch gave the food to her assistant and children.’

Some even acted as non-living thing, like bubbles.
‘The food got into a huge bubble and the bubble took it away. When the bubble got into the surface, it burst!.’

It was funny but quite tiring especially when you handled a group of over-curious and over-excited students.

Owh, I just love teaching!

p/s – It’s 12.02 a.m. now so Happy Birthday to me! Haha
