OS X Yosemite (2014)

On last Friday, when I was on Instagram looking at pictures, I saw a picture of someone upgrading her macbook to OS X Yosemite. Then suddenly it clicked. Damn, it’s 16th October already. The release! I quickly grabbed my Macky and excitedly looking for the upgrade. When I bought Macky last year (click here), it was at that time, the release of OS X Mavericks. To be honest, haha I don’t really notice the differences except for some features in the layout.

The duration of the whole process depends on your internet speed. Since my YES speed is so freaking sad nowadays, it took almost 15 hours. Sighhh..

After 15 hours, introducing The Yosemite..

So, since I am so lazy to figure this out by myself, I am just gonna repost some of the reviews I read on Yosemite. Basically, this is an entry of another entry. Credit to Techradar.com

INTERFACE

“The most obvious change, visually at least, is the new interface. Yosemite does to the Mac what iOS 7 did to the iPhone and iPad. Its user interface is flatter – though not flat, there are still drop shadows and other nods to the third dimension, it’s just that now they exist for a purpose rather than being merely eye candy. No more glassy textures.

There’s more translucency in Yosemite than its predecessor, Mavericks. Where once it was limited to the Finder’s menu bar, it now pops up in lots of places, including Finder menus and the sidebar of Finder windows. It’s been tweaked so that the underlying image is blurred and less distracting than in Mavericks, but we suspect it will still be a love it or hate it feature. If you do hate it, you can ‘reduce’ it in the Accessibility pane of System Preferences.”

THE DOCK

“The shelf has gone, which will be a great relief to many, and the Dock has now reverted back to its original format, a rectangle. Not so good is the loss of the Dock preferences from the Apple menu – to change things like magnification or show/hide, you must now pay a visit to System Preferences.”

The dark dock

DARK MODE

“Brand new in Yosemite is Dark Mode, which turns some aspects of the OS a much darker shade of grey, to make it more comfortable to use your Mac in dim lighting. These include the Finder menu bar, Dock, and application switcher. During the beta period some elements of Dark Mode, such as Finder menus, were poorly implemented, and it remains to be seen whether they have been fixed in time for the full release.”

SAFARI

“The first impression Safari makes when launched is that it’s smaller and lighter than it used to be. Apple has reduced the height of the menu bar and the result is the loss of toolbar favourites. They no longer display by default, though you can switch them back on again from the Bookmarks menu.”

THE SPOTLIGHT

“There’s a good reason for the change, however; Spotlight is now much more useful than it used to be. It hooks into online data sources to pull out information and display it on-screen. Type in the name of a movie, for example, and you’ll get a thumbnail image and a plot summary with credits courtesy of Wikipedia. Type in the name of a restaurant or hotel, and Spotlight will display a snippet of a map, along with details of the establishment and reviews from Yelp.”

THE NOTIFICATION CENTRE

“Hands up if you used Notification Centre in Mavericks? No, us neither. But Yosemite makes it much more interesting by adding a Today panel that works in a similar way to iOS 8’s Notification Centre. It displays your Calendar appointments, the weather, world clock, and other elements you choose. And it supports third party widgets too. Oh, and it’s another OS X element to be given the translucent treatment.”

MESSAGES AND FACETIME

“Messages gets the same flat speech bubbles as iOS 8. That, however, is the least significant change. You can now send SMS messages directly from Messages to any phone, as long as you have an iPhone connected to your iCloud account on the same Wi-Fi network.

Likewise, FaceTime now allows you to make and receive telephone calls on your Mac, using your iPhone as a proxy.

In Messages, you can now remove yourself from busy threads, switch on Do Not Disturb to mute notifications, and send audio snippets as well as text or images.”

Take A Step Back and Go Shopping

This is probably an old story and some of you have already known it. But what the heck, I’m telling it again now. Somewhere in March this year, I’ve posted on my Facebook about the death of my iPhone5 that I’ve only used less than a year. It would be functioning well until now but due to my stupid carelessness, I’ve killed it. I’ve accidentally dropped it on my way home at Sabak night market. I wasn’t sure how, but I think it slipped through when I was putting it into my bag. Did track it and found it still at the scene. I was glad that no one took it yet, so we hurried back to the night market.

After a while looking for it, I found the iPhone IN THE BACK OF A BLACK HILUX. Know what? It was hidden there. I guess someone really wanted to take it but they put it there for a while and would come back for it. Thank God we were faster. The screen cracked so bad tho that I almost cried. It was beyond repair. It wasn’t just the screen, but the frame did bend too. Didn’t really know what to react. Sad, yeah but at the same time, I felt nervous? Does this mean a new iPhone? Owh my God! Less than a year!

My poor iPhone and the place we found it.

My poor iPhone and the place we found it. Puas hati jugak jumpa walaupun dlm keadaan mcm ni. Kalau hilang terus, lagi ralat kot..

I tried to be phoneless at least until the payday but who was I kidding? I couldn’t live without phones. It’s like living in a stone age. After trying to make sense to hubs that it was impossible for me not to have phones, he finally allowed me to buy a new one. Mommy said the same thing too. So…. Here we go.

It’s been 4 months now. Please Emy don’t be stupid again. Or you can be stupid, but don’t let your stupidity cost anymore money.
So there. That’s how it happened.

………………….

Next, I wanna promote to you guys, these few instashops that sell beautiful cute funky macbook accessories. I’ve been a customer to both Lagendas and TrueJannah. I like them both, but cards on the table, I slightly prefer TrueJannah rather than Lagendas because they also sell these cute funky sleeves for laptops, that are not necessarily for MacBooks only, but also laptops that are the same size as MacBooks 11″, 13″ and 15″. But really, both offer very friendly and quick service. You can just practically close your eyes and go with either one.

New Home And New ‘Dress’

I’m home alone at this moment. Hubby’s gone to the new house to monitor the whole process of installing the TV cabinet at our hall. I was planning to go with him, but then I changed my mind because something interesting was on TV haha.  We’re still not moving in yet. There’s still dust everywhere, curtains and blinds are not done yet, lil things here and there need to be fixed and added. I think, we can only move in by late February or early March. As much as I can’t wait, I’m also super lazy to do the before and after things, ‘PACKING AND UNPACKING’. I wish I can hire people to do it for me. 😦

Anyway, here’s a picture compilation of our master bedroom that is now 90% complete. The only things left are the wallpaper and the blinds. Can’t wait to see the whole look! 🙂

Owh, there’s a picture of the hall too. 😛

Thank you Abang Cabinet. Love your work!

Thank you Abang Cabinet. Love your work! As you can see, white and dark brown are the theme colours of our new home. Clean and neat.

I’m so relieved that he made us this big wardrobe! Well, big enough to me. Wardrobe lama kat rumah ni mcm nk meletup sbb padat sgt kena sumbat dengan TPL dresses yang boleh tahan banyak jugak la. 3/4 of the space is for me, 1/4 is for hubby. Haha

Speaking about dresses, I haven’t done that kind of shopping for a long time now. 2 months or more, I think. Surprised? Yeah, me too. Hahah. The collection now gets too boring for me, same old plain coloured dresses, just a change of names. I need to lay it off for a while until it comes back to me again.

I’m now attracted to something else. If you know me well, you would know that I’m a sucker for phone casings. YES! Hahaha simply because I get bored easily using the same casing over and over again.  Orang cakap, ’emy ni pantang nampak kedai casings, mesti nak masuk”.

It’s true.

Hahahaha

This is taken last year in October. It gets bigger by now haha

This collection is taken last year in October. It gets bigger by now haha

So it turns out, I’m a sucker for every type of casing, not just a phone casing! Right now, I’m always tempted to buy casings for my Macky. Same reason, same excuse, ‘Get bored easily’ hahah. Boleh terima x excuse tu?

The other day, I went to ebay to search for other things actually, but ended up buying one more ‘dress’ for my Macky. Of course la kat ebay lagi murah kan (not sure about the quality since I haven’t received it yet).

Macbook Air crystal, PURPLE

Torn apart between these two, but I finally settled for Purple. I put the Aqua under the watch-list tho because I actually really really like both colours. So there, I’m still buying dresses, but instead of for me, I buy them for Macky. Hahah. Orang belum ada anak, mcm ni la. One day, when I have a daughter, maybe I’ll shop less for me and more for her. Or maybe not. Maybe I’ll just buy stuff for both of us. Kehkeh

My perut is so berkeroncong right now. I took a long nap today so I dunno what time will I be sleeping tonight. The good thing is, tomorrow is Friday and it’s already weekend for us here in Johor. Weird weekend, remember? Still adapting to it.

Sabtu sekolah ganti pulak. Ahad we go back to school as usual. There goes my lazy Sunday. The good thing is, no more Monday Blues. Haha

Once You Go Mac, You’ll Never Go Back

IMG_2412

Yes, Pengkek. I’m quoting you.

Finally! I finally welcome home this new gadget of mine, Macbook Air 13″!

So after about a year of eyeing on this thing, I finally have my first Mac, which is also my third Apple after the iPadmini and iPhone5. Despite it being the third, this is actually the first Apple product that I have admired, loooong before iPad/iPhone, but it turns out to be the last one bought after those two. Hehe. Simply because this costs the most money compared to iPad and iPhone so I had to do a lot of thinking to get this. Now that I have it, I gotta say that it’s worth every cent paid. Yes, really! Wee… I’m just so exciting and yes folks, I’m now on this new baby, blogging about it.

Actually, I already had a Sony Vaio S Series laptop that I ‘accidentally’ bought somewhere last year and I would say it’s still in a very good condition and working well. The problem was, husband and I kept fighting to use the same laptop (since his was broken and beyond repair). We had to take turns to use it. Then I thought it seemed like perfect timing for me to get a new laptop, a Mac to be exact, since I once said to my husband, ‘This Vaio will be the last Windows-operated laptop for me, next if I’m gonna buy a laptop again, it’ll be a Mac’. There you go. This is not a spontaneous decision. Unlike the Vaio, this is also not accidental.

We both went to Mac City last two weeks, just to do some survey about this cool thing, like the pricing, specs etc. When the salesman explained and did some demos about the cool features and tricks, I was like, ‘Eeiiiii nak beli jugak nak beli jugak!! It is so cool that it has lots of cool finger tricks on the touchpad, like you can change from one apps to the other apps just by swiping it left, right, up and down using three or two fingers, It works for someone who is soooo lazy, just like me. It’s very very light too (Do I even have to mention that? Haha).

At the checkout counter, one of the salesmen told me that I could download the new launched software that just came out on that very day, namely OSX Mavericks. The previous one was called OSX Mountain Lion. I couldn’t really do the comparison between the two because I have never used Mountain Lion (maybe I have but just for couple hours before I downloaded Mavericks), and I’m also very new to Mavericks. So if I’m going to have to say anything about them, it’s going to be quite unfair. Haha. But one very very fair thing to say is, THIS MACBOOK IS SOO COOLLLL! Yes, with the caps on, I’m like, shouting!

The new Mavericks!

The new Mavericks!

I bought this together with the Apple Care Protection Plan, which is actually an extension of warranty (3 years instead of a year), as well as the Apple Superdrive (external CD slot). Owh, and also the keyboard clear skin. Owh, another one. The Speck SeeTrue Raspberry Case, this is the most important accessory!

So, these are the damages done.. Lovely damages I would say haha

I still haven’t finished exploring yet. Thanks to Mr.Google and Mr.Youtube, you guys such a big help! This is not even half of the advantages offered, but I just have to pen off now. Will blog more about it soon!
