Keep Calm And Cook On



School break is ending in just a few weeks. I didn’t do much, didn’t travel much. Well, I was supposed to but due to certain problems that popped up at the last minute, my December plan has to be postponed until next March, maybe. Ain’t sure yet. Would be awesome if it wouldn’t be postponed, but if it will, that’s fine too. I guess. Whatever.

Anyhoo, there is one thing that I’ve been doing quite consistently during this school break. The one that makes me feel so proud of myself. The one that I keep gloating to my mom.

That title is the hint already.

Okay, it might not seem like a big deal to some people, but to me, it is. I’m not much of a cook, but I dunno, lately, I’m kinda enjoying it. It’s fun noticing myself creating something for my little family, seeing my husband enjoying what I’ve created, acting like the domestic goddess, getting compliments after compliments and pretending like it’s not a big deal hahahah 😀

Okay fine. It’s not much, I know. But I’ve made them and they’re not just plain edible, they’re delicious. Of course, hubs is the one and only judge of my cooking but even though so, his approval still can be taken for granted okay guys.

Last week, I already shopped 3 dresses from my favourite clothing line, The Poplook, but I still haven’t got a chance to try them on yet because right now I’m in Sabak Bernam and those are addressed to my house in Muar. Huaaa… Cant wait! But, to get rid of the guilt (of wasting money on dresses again), I decided to sell some of my dresses in my wardrobe, those with the tags are still attached. Yang baru ade, yang dah yg pakai sekali dua, then x pakai dah pun ade. I should do a clearance sale kan.. Usually I let go of my stuff in TPL Group on Facebook, they’re always sold out. That’s why I love buying TPL stuff, because they have high second value and whenever I don’t need them, I can always sell ’em. Here’s the best part. There’s always buyers! Hahaha cool right!

Today is my second day at home, and when I say home, I mean Rumah Sabak Bernam. I’m only gonna be here until this Sunday, and then I’ll go back to Muar to monitor the whole progress of our house renovation. Can’t wait to see my new kitchen. I hope they won’t mess things up while we’re not around.

Speaking about kitchen, well, I decided to cook today since I RARELY cooked in our own house (yes, in caps!). Hubby requested Nasi Lemak with sambal sotong and ayam bakar rempah. So, here they are!

Macam bengong je puji masakan sendiri. Hahahaha. It’s actually quite an accomplishment for a newbie like me, you know. That’s why I’m bragging about my cooking right now. Haha

Today is 27th November 2013. It’s 2 months (2 months and 1 day) now since ayah passed away. The pain of losing him is still there (how can you lose it, you’ll never lose it), but we know he’s in a better place right now. I still get a glimpse of him sometimes in my sleep and his voice still lingers in my ears. Just now when I got back from buying groceries for mom, we passed by the cemetery where ayah was buried, the balai raya where ayah used to go for kampung meeting and the mosque. Every inch of this place reminds me of him. Lagi2 bila tgk parit2 kat sepanjang jalan. I used to help ayah printing those pictures of parit for kampung development files and documentations. Hehe.. Kdg2 ayah keluar rumah bwk camera, saje tanye, ‘Ayah nak gi mana?’ He said, ‘Nak tgkp gambar parit. Nak ikot ke?’ Hehehe.. Or, balik rumah tanye mak, ayah kat mana, mak said, ‘Alah, tgkp gambar parit la tu…’ Haha. Parit parit parit! Memories! Always love and miss you ayah!

Antara beberapa situasi yang menyebabkan aku malas masuk dapur.

Situasi #1: Tengah potong timun.

Mak   : La… Tebal sangat tu.. Potong la nipis2.
Aku    : Yelah2… *sambung potong*
Mak   : Ala mie.. Tu nipis sangat pulakk…
Aku    : Abis tu tadi cakap tebal sangat, ni nipis sangat pulak..
Mak   : Jangan ler nipis2 sangat, hancur nanti timun tu..
Aku    : Ha, mak buat tunjuk sikit camane.
Mak    : Buat mcm ni la… *mak kunun tunjuk skill potong timun*
Aku    : Eleh same je tebal mcm org buat.
Mak   : Ni sebab timun ni dah senget. Kamu la potong senget tadi.
Aku    : Hmm…. :-p

Situasi  #2: Tuang minyak dalam kuali.

Aku    : Mak, banyak mcm ni ke?
Mak   : Alahai.. Sikit sangat tu.. Tambah lgi.
Aku    : Okay. Banyak mcm ni? *sambil tuang lagi minyak*
Mak    : Eh, dah dah!! Laa.. Kan dah banyak sangat tu..
Aku     : Gaya cakap tadi mcm sikit sangat. Org letak la banyak2.
Mak    : Memang la, tapi takde la banyak sampai mcm tu.
Aku     : Lain kali cakap biar terang.
Mak    : Kamu tengok la sendiri minyak tu.. *sambil tuang balik minyak dalam bekas*
Aku     : Tadi tu mcm tu la orang letak minyak tu mak. Mak yg suruh tambah.
Mak    : Tadi mak x tengok betul2.
Aku    :  Dah tu, mak la yg salah bgi arahan.

Situasi #3: Bile mintak kerje challenging sikit.

Aku    : Mak lepas ni buat ape?
Mak   : Pegi la potong2 bawang ke, basuh pinggan mangkuk tu ke..
Aku    : Ala…. Mak la yg potong2. Biar mie yg masukkan tu, masukkan ni..
Mak   : Kamu cakap nk belajar masak. Pegi la potong2 bawang ke, tumbuk2 cili ke..
Aku    : Yela. Tapi yg tu dah tau. Yg potong2 tu mak buat la. Kang kalo mie yg potong, mie tak tau mak masukkan ape dlm tu, mana dulu nk masukkan, tau2 mak buat dah siap.
Mak   : Biar la kamu yg potong2. Biar kamu tau bahan2 apa nk pakai.
Aku    : X best la. X mencabar langsung.
Mak   : Lagi pon kamu buat kerja lambat. Kang lambat siap. *tone mengejek*
Aku    :  Hek ele…

Gaduh ngan mak kat dapur memang lumrah alam.

Not The Curriculum Secretary Anymore!
(Yayyy meee!!!)

On last Monday (or Tuesday??), we, teachers had a meeting. The meeting was actually about the changes in our teaching timetable since our school got a new teacher. When I knew we had a new colleague, I was soo happy coz I thought she was the English teacher, but turned out that her option was Pengajian Am, means she would be teaching Malay, Civic, Music, Local Studies and stuff. This also means, there would be no changes in my timetable. I would stick to 32 periods of teaching that I was given earlier.

During the meeting, all other teachers got to cut down their minutes of teaching. From 28 periods to 24, from 30 to 27, something like that. Honestly, mesti la rase jeles gile. Plus, with that amount of periods of teaching, I was also given few big posts such as being the curriculum secretary and the sports secretary. These two posts mang byk kerje. So, during the meeting, I voiced out this issue, saying that I couldn’t handle all this on my own (even if I could, I just didn’t want to coz I think it was a bit unfair). So, they allowed me to drop the curriculum secretary post and handed it to the new teacher! Hahaa.

One more reason I was dying to let go of the post was because I couldn’t stand working for the Curriculum boss. I mean, the PK Curriculum la. He’s just too impossible to work with, coz he’s a freak and bodoh sombong. I seriously can’t work for an idiot like him. That’s why I chose to keep the sports secretary post, coz the Koko boss is verrrryyy sporting!!!


Chocolate Almond Cookies
(This is the first time I baked this!!!)

Okay, so few days ago, I felt like eating chocolate cookies. So, I started googling and youtubing the best and easy recipes for chocolate cookies, and later I found this video. After watching it for few times, I rushed to the kitchen and start menyelongkar kitchen cabinet and fridge, looking for the ingredients.

The butter, caster and brown sugar, 2 eggs and flour, mixed together.. and also vanilla extract. Tpi I didn't put it sbb dah abes.. 😦

Since I didn't have chocolate buttons at that time, so gotta make use of what I had. Haha. Korek2 fridge, jumpe this. Van Houten chocs!

The first batch of the cookies! Haha. Ade besar, ade kecik.. I put some chocolate rice on top of the cookies..

As you can see, the shape memang x cantik sbb they were not in the same sizes.. Haha


As usual, there’s always issue with everything that I tried on my first attempt. I think the cookies were too sweet. I think I did put too much brown sugar into the mixture. I was supposed to put only half cup of the brown sugar, but I think I put almost a cup of it. Even after I added some more flour, it was still sweet. But overall, it was okay. Next time I try baking this, I’ll make the perfect one!


W-Day Preparation
(The Wedding Cards)

I’ve booked my wedding cards from here. The site belongs to my school technician’s brother. It is based in Penang as you can see from the name of the website. I chose this company coz their products are sooo cheap! With that quality and that price, I think that’s a good deal. Plus, I got more discount since his brother worked at the same school with me. I mean, who wants to waste soo much money on the wedding cards? It’s not like people wanna put it in frame after reading it kan? Paling wangi pon, they just keep the cards underneath pile of bills and other letters, but most often, they just throw it out after putting the dates to their organizer. Hahaha.

They are going to post the cards on this Monday. I think maybe around next week, I can start distributing the cards. Owh, to any of you who wants the cards, you can ‘inbox’ me your address in my Facebook account, okay?

So, the cards are now settled. Hm, the catering is also now settled. Mom and dad already went to the caterer’s house and tasted their food, mom said it was delicious. I’ve got few more to handle, like the bunga telur, shoes yg x beli lgi, door gifts.. Haish.. Ponin!


Queensland Flood Disaster
(Owh, YES! I memang seorg Melayu yang suke amek tau hal luar daripada hal2 yg berlaku sesama bangsa kite kat Malaysia. Sue me!)

I bet the whole world knows that recently there was a very big flood disaster hit the northern part of Queensland, Australia. I was shocked when I read the news because I have never thought that this kind of natural disaster would happen to such place. It was sad to see some of the places that I was very familiar with  got affected by the flood.

I used to live in West End area, and there was few times when I took a walk at the Orleigh Park in the evening or during weekends. It felt so weird seeing now that the place is no longer a park / playground. Water was all over and the place turns to be sooo ugly! Also, when I was still working as a cleaner, we (Nurul and I) often used CityCat to go to our client’s house in (I cant’ remember the name of the place). So, from West End ferry terminal, we took the CityCat straight away to Regatta terminal every week. Sometimes, when we missed the bus from the city to go home (sbb tgk movie or stay back kat Garden’s Point campus buat assignment yg time tu dh sememangnye last minute), we used the CityCat from Gardens Point or North Quay terminal all the way to West End terminal. Sides that, we also had a very close friend in St Lucia. We used to go to his house every Wednesday night to watch So You Think You Can Dance Australia (boleh je tgk kat umah tpi time tu ade conflict ngn housemate, sebulan dua jugak la conflict tu, hahahha!). St Lucia was very near to West End actually. Both places were just separated by the Brisbane river. We just had to take the CityCat across the river to go to St Lucia. We rarely used the bus to go to his place since the journey was like, 2 or 3 times longer if we took the bus. So, we used Brisbane river a lot as our mean of transportation when we were there. Seeing it got swollen and broke the banks was really scary for me, without even having to be there.

I Am Sooo Boredddddda!

Bored! Hm… He’s still busy finishing his action research, paperwork, weekly reports for the whole yer of 2010, in fact he’s actually berkampung at his school since yesterday. And now, he hasn’t come back yet from school. I mean, imagine lah. The work that has to be finished within a year, now needs to be finished within 3 days. So, a bit chaotic la kan..

Anways, since boring sgt, so I decided to make a bread pudding, based on my friend, Jannah’s recipes. Hmm.. I didn’t snap pictures during the whole process coz the kitchen was quite a mess, so, I just took pictures of the pudding when it was in the oven. So, this is the pudding!

Bread Pudding. Haha, don't mind the look. I just shredded the bread, so it looks kinda messy. Haha

Well, it’s my first attempt. There are few issues with the pudding actually. First, I think it was a bit soggy and ‘eggy’ (is that a word?). Next time, I should reduce the eggs from 5 to 4 or maybe 3 eggs only. And yeah, it was a bit soggy since I put too much butterscotch sauce on the bread right before I put it in the oven. But, my mom said okay je. Whatever la. I am not very satisfied, will try again next time.

Hmm, I still haven’t had lunch actually (but I have the dessert already, the pudding lah! Haha). Okay, after performing Asar, I’ll have lunch+dinner and then, wash Chullie. He’s got soooo many paw prints on the body, thanks to my cats who always make my car as their ‘tempat bersantai’ anak beranak.

Owh, here’s a Chullie trivia. During these almost 4 months I own her, I’ve never ever brought her to carwash. Yeah, I wash and polish her by myself tau! Hehe.. It took almost two hours for me to clean everything, inside out. The hardest part is, of course, her white shoes tu la. Haha.
