Ground Control To Major Tom

the-secret-longboard-of-walter-mitty

A few days ago, Fox Movies aired this Ben Stiller’s movie entitled, The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty. I’ve never watched this show before or known anything about it, like is it based on a novel or is it a real story (it is an adaptation of a short story by James Thunder in 1939, later I checked).. I didn’t know, but I was really attracted to watch it because, of course, the trailer seemed interesting but most of all, the soundtrack of the movie, Space Oddity by David Bowie. It is an old song but full of meanings. As quoted by Cheryl Melhoff, ‘it is a song about courage and adventures to the unknown’. Yeah, something to do with the movie too.

Space Oddity by David Bowie

Ground Control to Major Tom
Ground Control to Major Tom
Take your protein pills
and put your helmet on
Ground Control to Major Tom
Commencing countdown,
engines on
Check ignition
and may God’s love be with you[spoken]
Ten, Nine, Eight, Seven, Six, Five, Four, Three, Two, One, LiftoffThis is Ground Control
to Major Tom
You’ve really made the grade
And the papers want to know whose shirts you wear
Now it’s time to leave the capsule
if you dare

This is Major Tom to Ground Control
I’m stepping through the door
And I’m floating
in a most peculiar way
And the stars look very different today

For here
Am I sitting in a tin can
Far above the world
Planet Earth is blue
And there’s nothing I can do

Though I’m past
one hundred thousand miles
I’m feeling very still
And I think my spaceship knows which way to go
Tell my wife I love her very much
she knows

Ground Control to Major Tom
Your circuit’s dead,
there’s something wrong
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you….

Here am I floating
round my tin can
Far above the Moon
Planet Earth is blue
And there’s nothing I can do.

So, I googled it. I googled the song and the meaning of it. You can look at it in all directions because different people have different views, but here’s what I thought. First I thought it was a song about an astronaut who lost contact with people at the ground control and might not be able to make it back to Earth. Yes, it seems like it when you look at the lyrics. Very literal.

But it also can be interpreted in a big picture, which is maybe about a person who is stressed up in life and sick with other people’s expectation of him/her (And the papers want to know whose shirts you wear), so s/he decides to keep their distance away from the surrounding (Now it’s time to leave the capsule) (I’m stepping through the door) and hoping to look at the world with different perspectives (And the stars look very different today).

Even after distancing him/herself from the world, s/he still doesn’t get what s/he wants in life (Though I’m past one hundred thousand miles, I’m feeling very still). Something is still missing, doesn’t know what it is. S/he is drown in own problems and wants to forget the world/people and everything that s/he used to care about (Planet Earth is blue, and there’s nothing I can do) and ready to give up and say goodbye.

Wow. This is getting deep, isn’t it?

This is just an interpretation. You might have one on your own too. Hehe

People, if you haven’t watched the movie (The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty) yet, please please watch it. It’s kinda funny too seeing I might have something in common with Walter Mitty. Sometimes, I’m also a dream machine like Walter Mitty, especially when it comes to fantasy revenge to people I hate haha, but the sad truth is, fantasy revenge doesn’t work out the way we want. Why owh why….

Anyway, it is a very good movie and still got me thinking even after a few days watching it. It makes me wonder, ‘what’s my biggest achievement in life?’ ‘am I happy and satisfied with the still life I’m living (you know, being a teacher blah blah blah)?’ ‘don’t I wanna do more than being stuck in the system that I hate?’ and question after question pop up in my mind.

One thing that I hope I have in common with Walter Mitty is,
I wish someday I have his guts to be spontaneous. I wish I can just drop everything and see the world through my own eyes like he does in the movie. Not as a tourist, but as a traveler. This reminds me of Sean O’Connell too. I wanna be a traveler like him.

Hmm…..

I See Fire

dos2

I See Fire by Ed Sheeran

Oh, misty eye of the mountain below
Keep careful watch of my brothers’ souls
And should the sky be filled with fire and smoke
Keep watching over Durin’s sons

If this is to end in fire
Then we should all burn together
Watch the flames climb high into the night

Calling out father oh
Stand by and we will
Watch the flames burn auburn on
The mountain side

And if we should die tonight
Then we should all die together
Raise a glass of wine for the last time

Calling out father oh
Prepare as we will
Watch the flames burn auburn on
The mountain side
Desolation comes upon the sky

Now I see fire
Inside the mountain
I see fire
Burning the trees
And I see fire
Hollowing souls
I see fire
Blood in the breeze
And I hope that you remember me

Oh, should my people fall
Then surely I’ll do the same
Confined in mountain halls
We got too close to the flame

Calling out father oh
Hold fast and we will
Watch the flames burn auburn on
The mountain side
Desolation comes upon the sky

Now I see fire
Inside the mountain
I see fire
Burning the trees
I see fire
Hollowing souls
I see fire
Blood in the breeze
And I hope that you remember me

And if the night is burning
I will cover my eyes
For if the dark returns
Then my brothers will die
And as the sky is falling down
It crashed into this lonely town
And with that shadow upon the ground
I hear my people screaming out

Now I see fire
Inside the mountains
I see fire
Burning the trees
I see fire
Hollowing souls
I see fire
Blood in the breeze

I see fire (oh you know I saw a city burning out) (fire)
And I see fire (feel the heat upon my skin, yeah) (fire)
And I see fire (uh-uh-uh-uh) (fire)
And I see fire burn auburn on the mountain side

Just watched The Hobbit : The Desolation of Smaug that I recorded some time ago on Astro. Let it played to the end, to the credit part and then this song was on. It kinda keeps you in a melancholic mood, making you feel very sad and gloomy.

And I’m hooked.

Enjoy.

Let It Go In 25 Languages

frozen-let-it-go

I don’t think there is any soul in this world still clueless about Frozen and the famous haunted song, ‘Let It Go’.

Just now, hubs showed me a compilation of 25 singers from different parts of the world, singing Let It Go in 25 languages, including The Elsa, Idina Menzel herself. So of course, the first thing occurred to my mind when I learnt about the song was, ‘Is our language here in the song?’ Chuckled, and I answered it myself,
‘Noo laaa.. Cannot be. Takkanla ade.’

So, is it or is it not?

To those who haven’t watched this still, enjoy it. I know I do.

Battleships

Battleships by Daughtry

Yeah

I’m sinking inside
And the masts and lines are broken down tonight.
I swallow my pride
But we’re drowning in the ocean and it’s tearing my heart open

Baby, we’re high then we’re low, first it’s yes then it’s no, and we’re changing like the tides
Yeah, but I want you, I need you, and I guarantee you we’ll make it out alive

‘Cause I don’t wanna fight no more,
Even when the waves get rough
I don’t wanna see the day we say we’ve had enough

And I don’t wanna fight this war
Bullets coming off our lips
But we stick to our guns and we love like battleships.
Like battleships.

Boom, ba-boom, boom, ba-boom, boom, boom
Boom, ba-boom, boom, ba-boom
And the cannon goes
Boom, ba-boom, boom, ba-boom, boom, boom
Boom, ba-boom, boom, ba-boom
And the cannon goes

Bombs fly through the air
And I know that we’re both playing not so fair.
Oh, show, show me you care
I got my white flag up and it’s waving ’cause you know this love’s worth saving, baby.

We’re high then we’re low, first it’s yes then it’s no, and we’re changing like the tides
Yeah, but I want you, I need you, and I guarantee you we’ll make it out alive

‘Cause I don’t wanna fight no more,
Even when the waves get rough
I don’t wanna see the day we say we’ve had enough

And I don’t wanna fight this war
Bullets coming off our lips
But we stick to our guns and we love like battleships.
Like battleships.

Boom, ba-boom, boom, ba-boom, boom, boom
Boom, ba-boom, boom, ba-boom
And the cannon goes
Boom, ba-boom, boom, ba-boom, boom, boom
Boom, ba-boom, boom, ba-boom
And we love, yeah we love
And we love, yeah we love

I’m sinking inside
Can we finally put our weapons down tonight?

‘Cause I don’t wanna fight no more,
Even when the waves get rough
I don’t wanna see the day we say we’ve had enough

And I don’t wanna fight this war
Bullets coming off our lips
But we stick to our guns and we love like battleships.
Like battleships.

Boom, ba-boom, boom, ba-boom, boom, boom
Boom, ba-boom, boom, ba-boom
And the cannon goes
Boom, ba-boom, boom, ba-boom, boom, boom
Boom, ba-boom, boom, ba-boom
And the cannon goes
Boom, ba-boom, boom, ba-boom, boom, boom
Boom, ba-boom, boom, ba-boom
And the cannon goes
Boom, ba-boom, boom, ba-boom, boom, boom
Boom, ba-boom, boom, ba-boom
And we love like battleships.

I find myself singing this song all the time now.

Love love Daughtry!

What Makes A Man

westlife-wallpaper-1

Yes, as what you’ve imagined, this is the song of Westlife, many many years ago.

What Makes A Man by Westlife

This isn’t goodbye, even as I watch you leave, this isn’t goodbye
I swear I won’t cry, even as tears fill my eyes, I swear I won’t cry

Any other girl, I’d let you walk away
Any other girl, I’m sure I’d be ok

Tell me what makes a man
Wanna give you all his heart
Smile when you’re around
And cry when you’re apart
If you know what makes a man
Wanna love you the way I do
Girl you gotta let me know
So I can get over you

What makes her so right?
Is it the sound of her laugh?
That look in her eyes
When do you decide?
She is the dream that you seek
That force in your life

When you apologize, no matter who was wrong
When you get on your knees if that would bring her home

Tell me what makes a man
Wanna give you all his heart
Smile when you’re around
And cry when you’re apart
If you know what makes a man
Wanna love you the way I do
Girl you gotta let me know

So that I can get over you

Other girls will come along, they always do
But what’s the point when all I ever want is you, tell me

Tell me what makes a man
Wanna give you all his heart
Smile when you’re around
And cry when you’re apart
If you know what makes a man
Wanna love you the way I do
Girl you gotta let me know….. (let me know)
Girl you gotta let me know….. (wooo)
So I can get over you

I was on assignment (not mine, was doing a favour for a friend) when I suddenly went to Youtube, for a lil bit of mind refreshments. I started browsing the old songs, 90’s songs, started with M2M, then S Club 7, ATeens, lastly this favourite band of mine when I was little/teenager, Westlife. I was such a big fan. A BIG BIG fan! I once almost wrote a letter to the main vocalist, Shane Filan, who’s my favourite (he’s so kiuttt and suara so sedap). Already bought the flowery sweet smelling papers and envelope, just for him. Cant remember what was stopping me back then, but I ended up using those papers and envelope for other things. Haha

One of the songs that I still like listening to, is What Makes A Man. I don’t know why, but if you really really look at the lyrics, you would find them so beautiful.

Enjoy.
