Mr. Crab And Mr. Squid

So tonight I would like to share one of my lesson plans that I designed for my Year 3 kids. It was not in the textbook because I created it myself. So, please expect some flaws. Haha

Lesson 1 : LISTENING / SPEAKING
After I read them the story, I asked them simple WH Questions such as, ‘How many characters in the story?’ “Where did Mr.Crab live?’ and etc.

I wrote this story at 3 a.m. I just couldn’t find the best, simplest and easiest story to teach Simple Past Tense on the internet, so I had to come up with my own story. I dunno why I chose crab and squid as my characters, but these two characters remind you of something right? Haha. SPONGEBOB!

If you look at the ending of the story where the food was gone, I was actually so sleepy and exhausted at that time. I didn’t know how to finish the story, so sengaja buat tergantung. Kunun2 nk suruh my kids sambung cerita la and it worked. Haha

Lesson 2 : READING
Match the sentence halves based on the story.

This is what I did in Lesson 2, after doing shared reading. First, I asked them to retell the story using picture cards that I pasted on the board and then, we moved to this activity. Basically, they just had to choose the correct phrases based on the story, but to add more fun in it, I asked them to colour it. They loved colouring. Semua pun nk warna. Gambar Mr.Crab and Mr.Squid yang memang dh berwarna tu pon nk warna lagi..

Lesson 3 : WRITING
A good platform to expand their ideas.

Here is the best part. I asked them to throw me ideas about what happened to the food. At first, class was a bit quiet because they thought I expected some serious answers, so I started to give examples, ‘The food was gone because Mr.Crab didn’t like it and he threw it away.’ After that, one by one gave me weird funny answers. I wrote properly on the board and asked them to choose any three of the answers and write them on the task sheet.

Lesson 4 : GRAMMAR
Simple Past Tense yaaww. (I suck at writing simple instructions!)

Since the story was in Past Tense, I thought it would be good if I focused on the Simple Past Tense used in this story. I explained about Past Tense and gave examples such as ‘had’, ‘went’ and ‘shared’ from the story. Then, I asked them to help me find few more Past Tense verbs and list them down in the task sheet above.

Lesson 4 : GRAMMAR

Then, match the verbs in Past Tense to the root words. Of course, I gave an example on the board before asking them to do it by themselves.

Fill in the blanks!

Lastly, ‘Fill in the blanks’ exercise as the closure of the grammar lesson. For some reason, they said this exercise was the hardest. I didn’t give examples but I told them the answers were all in the story that they have just read. I helped them with the first two questions, then, baru la diorg boleh buat sendiri. Maybe my instructions were not clear.

For ‘Language Art’ lesson, I just asked them to do a role-play. I divided them into several groups and they presented it in front of the class. I know there were only two characters in the story, but I asked them to insert the ending of the story by themselves (like what they did in Lesson 3) and there, they could add more characters. So, every group presented different ending of the story. One of the groups came up with something like this,
‘The food was stolen by a witch. The witch gave the food to her assistant and children.’

Some even acted as non-living thing, like bubbles.
‘The food got into a huge bubble and the bubble took it away. When the bubble got into the surface, it burst!.’

It was funny but quite tiring especially when you handled a group of over-curious and over-excited students.

Owh, I just love teaching!

Another Bite of Apple

After about two weeks purchasing iPurple and falling in love with iOS, I decided to switch from android to apple. So, I passed down my S3 to my husband (he wanted it badly), and bought the second Apple gadget that I used to hate before. Taadaaaa!

I purposely chose black for the colour, to match it with my iPadmini that I bought before. Plus, I’ve been using white phones (S2 and S3) for two years so it’s kinda getting old. To be honest, I was not familiar with Apple gadgets and iOS, but it actually wasn’t that hard to master. I remember after buying an iPhone5, I went to Pizza Hut for dinner and there, I didn’t really eat though hubby ordered a lot of food. I just ate the salad and spent the rest of the night playing with my new gadget. Honestly, I couldn’t rest until I figured out the tricks and shortcuts this gadget has to offer.

 After more than two weeks owning and using this gadget, I admit there are certain things that are lot easier on S3, for example, well, the obvious one, setting the phone ringtone! Hahah. Using iTunes for the first time was quite confusing especially when I wanted to set the ringtone but I managed to do it (after several emotional tries haha), thank you Mr.Google and Mr.Youtube. The only bummer is, I can’t use Google Maps on iPhone because it’s not available on Malaysia AppStore. The iMaps installed in it for navigation purpose is super stupid, I can’t get anywhere using that. So my friend suggested me installing Waze. That one seems promising though I haven’t used it properly yet.

I don’t regret doing this move (from Android to iOS) even though I notice a lot of people around the world vote for android, particularly Samsung compared to Apple. I loved my S3 before, and I love my iPhone now. Both are great phones!

It’s been an honour owning you S3! Hehee

Though I already passed down my S3 to my hubby and it’s practically his now, but I don’t allow him to trade that phone to get an iPhone5, in case he wants to ‘berhijrah’ too soon. It served me well for less than a year so I don’t want it to be in a stranger’s hand.

New Obsession, iPurple!

I’ve got myself an iPad mini! At last! I named her iPurple since I chose her the purple casing. We didn’t have any intention to buy it actually and I blamed the whole thing on hubby. That day, we actually planned to go to Watson to buy my product supplies. After that, we went to the third floor to look at some cool phone casings. I was the one who wanted the phone casing, hubby usually was the victim who had to pay them for me. Haha. After buying two phone casings, I wanted to go home straight away, tapi hubby ajak singgah Navotech pulak. He said, ‘Singgah sini jap, nk tgk something.’ I said no, nanti makin tengok, makin banyak duit keluar. Hubby degil, dier cakap, ‘Takde laa… Sekejap je. Nk tengok bukan nk beli.’ Yeah right.

We went to different sections, hubby asked the salesman about computer stuff and I just walked around looking at everything. I noticed hubby went to iPad sections with the salesman and they chatted for more than 20 minutes. I knew it was 20 minutes because I looked at my watch. Kalau setakat tanya2 gitu je apesal lama sangat. So I went to him and held his hand signalling ‘Let’s go now’ but instead, he turned to me and said ‘Beli iPad nak?’ I was like, ‘Now????’ He insisted on buying but couldn’t give me solid reasons why. At first, I didn’t agree and thought it was a waste of money since we didn’t really need an iPad (though I agreed it was so cool to have it), but finally I surrendered. We always made random decision like this you know.. Remember when I bought my Sony Vaio Pink laptop last year? Mcm ni jugak lah. Cakap nk tgk2 je last2 beli jugak. Haish!

So, here’s the second argument. As usual, Apple’s products are available in two colour selections, black and white. We wanted the white one (I always hate black gadgets, I think they’re boring), but the one that we wanted (Wifi+Celullar, 16GB, White) was all sold out already. Black, that was all they had left. I asked hubby to order it first and waited until they called, maybe about a week or so, but hubby refused. He insisted on going home with an iPad on that day itself. I surrendered again.

So okaylah. Nk black, black je lah.

It turned out, the black iPadmini was not that boring. To my surprise, this colour looks so classy and stylish. If you look at the featured image on top on this entry, you can see that the black colour actually covers both sides (front/back) like iPhone 5 whereas for the white ones, they use silver colour for the back side (less stylish because of the dull silver but of course it was cuter).

I was torn apart between these two colours of the casing, PURPLE OR PINK? But since I didn’t wanna embarrass hubby using iPink, so I chose iPurple. Haha

iPurple is actually my first Apple product (I’m an Android user). Now that I’m loving it to bits, I’m now weighing my decision to buy an iPhone 5. Haha!

p/s- Hubby yang nak sangat iPad, but balik rumah daku yg conquer. HAHA

A Tired Entry (Yes, There’s NO Better Title Than This)

I’m just so tired tonight. This week has been so crazy, mentally (tears and pain at school) and physically (rushing here and there). No TGIF this week because Saturday is a working day (sekolah ganti). November seems so out of reach now and I just pray to God, to be granted good health so I can go through this in one piece until the end. I know, we are just one week away from first mid term school break, but that doesn’t mean anything. Class is on, as usual (UPSR classes). To add to the list, I also have a choral speaking practice to handle since we’ll be representing our zone to the district level. Since there’s a lot of things to work on, I need the whole week to improve the team. There goes my holiday! Yeay!

I have nothing more to add. Bye.

Unnecessary Dilemma

My mother in law once asked me about places that she could buy clothes or blouses from, at low price, so I replied, ‘Eh, mak kan orang sini (Muar). Patutnye mak la lagi tau’.  But since she really didn’t know, I tried to name a few places around here that I could recommend her, but nothing really came to mind. Here’s why! Because all this while, I’ve been shopping online!! Haha. (Berbalik pada cerita mother in law tadi, we finally brought her to Wetex Parade and bought a couple blouses there. Our treat, so kalau mahal pun xpa la pasal memang susah nak carik yang cantik dan murah kan.. Quality comes with the price. Hihi)

My favourite online shopping website is of course, ThePoplook.com. Till today, I’ve spent over a thousand buying dresses and blouses from that famous line. They’re just my taste! Hihi. Senang beli online sebab xyah round round jalan penat kaki kalau x jumpa apa kita nak kan.. Penat carik and still x jumpa, fed-up, boleh main Facebook terus, or better yet, shut down laptop, tido saja. Haha

All the dresses and tops I bought from ThePoplook.com. Hubby said I’m a crazy shopper. Naahh, there are many out there who are way crazier than me.

Just now, when I was browsing the website (the most dangerous activity for me because I always end up buying something), I saw these caftans. There are three designs, but these two are my favs. I’m just torn apart between them and I can’t pick one! Help!

I’m more to Lime Print, but Light Brown pun cantik jugak especially when I pair it with my dark purple long skirt. But I belum pernah ada baju colour lime tu. Takkanla kena beli BOTH pulaaaak though I really love caftans. Caftans are the best! They are comfy and flowy, perfct to beat the heat nowadays. It’s just been extra hot for the weather right now, kan? Tak tahan nk pakai baju fit2 lagi. So uncomfortable. Kejap je badan dah melekit macam hape.

Okay, so, which ONE??
